2024 Mission u Scholarship Application Guidelines The Scholarship Program of Arkansas Conference Mission u functions to provide assistance to persons wishing to attend the school but without funds to do so. To maintain the integrity of the program while upholding the purpose of the Arkansas Conference Mission u, the following guidelines have been adopted for the coming year. Failure to abide by scholarship guidelines may prevent persons from being considered as future scholarship recipients. Please follow these guidelines carefully.
All applications MUST be filled out completely, including a paragraph explaining why the scholarship is needed on the back of the form or submitted digitally with your online application. (Parents of young children may assist in this requirement.)
Electronic (e-mail) applications will be accepted this year. Paper applications MUST be mailed to the Arkansas Conference Scholarship Coordinator and postmarked by the deadline date to be considered for a scholarship. Emailed applications must be sent by the same deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Youth requesting scholarships for a second, third, etc. year will be asked to provide hands-on service as part of their “repayment” for receiving the scholarship. They will be contacted concerning their work assignment within 2 weeks of the Arkansas Conference Mission u so arrangements can be made if they need to arrive at the Arkansas Conference Mission u early and/or depart later than normal check-out times.
Any one church may not receive more than 5 scholarships for persons who are members/attendees of that church. If more than five (5) persons from any one church apply and funds are available after filling all other scholarship requests additional scholarships may be considered for that church.
Children and youth MUST have a parent or another adult attending the school who will be responsible for them at all times while on campus.
Persons receiving scholarships are expected to attend all classes, plenaries, and other scheduled activities during the Arkansas Conference Mission u.
Scholarships cover tuition, room and meals, but no books or other materials needed for the classes. Textbooks may be purchased from the Mission Resource Center (umwmissionresources.org) or on Amazon prior to the school. NO BOOKS WILL BE SOLD AT MISSION U. Local units may choose to help with the purchase of textbooks.
Scholarships DO NOT cover transportation costs to the Arkansas Conference Mission u.
Priorities for scholarships include: first time attendees, ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities, women under the age of 35, first time local United Women in Faith officers, and persons with critical financial needs.
Elizabeth Thornburg Workman (ETW) scholarships will be reserved for children and youth.
Board of Global Ministries Scholarships will be awarded, as funds are available, one per district within the conference.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by e-mail or phone call within 10 days of scholarship deadline. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE RECIPIENT TO COMPLETE HIS/HER REGISTRATION BEFORE THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE.
Persons receiving scholarships but finding they will be unable to attend should notify the registrar as soon as possible so those funds can be used to assist others to attend the Arkansas Conference Mission u.
